The Why, When, and How: Peeling Tomatoes

Peeling Tomatoes?! Do I really need to do that?!
Sometimes you might want to, and it’s a very quick and easy process. Here, we discuss and demonstrate this technique for you in case you need it at some point in the future.

Why: using peeled tomatoes gives a better texture to a dish you’re using them in. Often times in dishes, if you haven’t pre-peeled your tomatoes, the peel separates somewhat within the dish and it can be not very appetizing to chew on!

When: use peeled tomatoes in things like finer sauces, soups, and compotes.

How: Make an “X” in the tomato, boil for 30 seconds to one minute (max), followed immediately by a dunk in ice cold water. Then, watch the skin practically fall off! See Karen in the video below illustrating this further (you GO girl!)-

Have any questions or additional clarification, please feel free to comment here and we’ll get back to you.
Enjoy and enjoy getting the most out of your meals!
